August 2017

August could be titled, hurry and do the things we've been meaning to do all summer and haven't and now summer is almost over.

I had been wanting to chop the girls hair all summer, So we finally stopped by Super Cuts one day and got the girls haircuts.  I was so sick of the yelling and crying over tangles in their hair.  This has helped tremendously and I actually love their hair being shorter and they like wearing it down a little more often.  Although they are still stinkers and won't let me curl or straiten their hair and their hair needs one or the other I think.

We took a trip through American Fork Canyon and stopped at Cascade Springs.  Fun afternoon exploring around there.  We've enjoyed our pass up the canyon this summer but it sure has been crowded many days.

We took the kids to Princess night at the Orem Owlz baseball game.  It was fun with all the princesses they had but the highlight for the kids was getting a free fidget spinner if you stayed until the 5th inning.

We went to the Highland Fling Parade.  We took our chances and just showed up that morning and totally scored a nice place in the shade...unlike Draper Days where you put out chairs weeks in advance and then people still move your chairs to take your shade.  Anyways, it was fun because it wasn't that long of a parade and the kids still got a ton of candy.  That night we went and watched the fireworks as well.  Much less crowded then Draper Days and a lot smaller in general but still a fun day and evening.

We invited cousins over to swim one morning.  I've been wanting to do it all summer and never got around to it but we finally did it.  It was super fun and only after I got home did I realize Siena wasn't even in the picture...ooops.

The big event of August was the total solar eclipse.  It was only a 90% eclipse for us here.  After the mad rush of trying to find correct Solar Eclipse glasses, we finally found some and had fun viewing the solar eclipse.  Although we really wish we had made the trip to Idaho for the full experience, it was still fun to see it at 90% and watch it get a little darker and quite a bit cooler.

After waiting all summer we finally had our annual trip up the canyon with everyone for hot dogs and smores over the fire.  It was a fun night and my kids had been asking about it all summer.

Also after waiting all summer we finally got started on our backyard...we had our concrete patio poured.  Jaron could've watched this process all day. He loved watching the cement truck turn and turn.  Unfortunately the rest of our backyard has been on hold because our neighbors foundation needed to be fixed...hopefully soon.

We signed Jaron up for soccer again and this time no one volunteered to be a coach, so I volunteered to coach and told Shane, I would organize it all but he's the actual one out on the field to coach...haha.  It's been good and Jaron has loved us being his coaches but it's a bit crazy with parents just sending their kid in whenever they think it's their turn to play.  So it's a bit stressful trying to get everyone fair playing time.  Jaron has made a lot of goals, in fact not to brag but only one other team member has made a goal (we aren't very good) so I always pull him out first to give other kids a chance to make a goal.  This picture was at a practice and Shane was showing them to 'defend the ship.'  Now whenever he says that during a game, they all run to the goal and block it, even though there is no goalie and it's totally illegal to defend the goal in the 3/4 year old league.

At Jaron's 4 year old check up, Dr. Feindt suggested we get his speech evaluated.  He speaks a ton but his annunciation is not clear at all.  So we got him in and I really didn't think he would qualify when the speech pathologist said they only treat 4 year olds in the bottom 10th percentile.  Then proceeded to tell me Jaron was in the 3rd percentile....3%!!  How do I understand anything this boy says??  He's been to 2 sessions so far although I will miss the cute way he says things, it will be nice when everyone can understand what he says.

Stay tuned for the Back to School post.
